HELP - NOTES on FIDKAR:
- FIDKAR allows simultaneous bibliographic and catalog searches on several computer databases. Also simultaneous search of book catalog, periodical catalog, topical bibliographies, and the Master of Arts thesis catalogs is possible when using FIDKAR. FIDKAR makes it easy to prepare a bibliography of a single author picked for research/analysis or a topical list covering books and journal articles, let alone dissertations and chapters from collective works.
- FIDKAR works with Z39.50 protocol, similar to other Polish spread catalog KARO from the Nicholas Copernicus University Library in Torun (Poland).
- New to FIDKAR is a simultaneous browsing of databases containing documents in different formats (MARC21, MARCBN, special formats for Polish Index to Periodicals "BZCZ", dissertations, etc.). Also new is FIDKAR, a second application created along with FIDKAR, which is a program allowing a use of Z39.50 protocol for MAK (a Polish library packet)./li>
- FIDKAR and FIDSERW emerged as a result of an inspiration and commission from the Bureau of Computer Development of FIDES (Federation of Church Libraries). Applications were prepared and configured by Michal Marks a student at the Department of Electronics and Information Technology of the Warsaw Polytechnics (Politechnika Warszawska).
- FIDES extends its gratitude to all the mentioned above as wall as to the librarians in the National Library in Warsaw, especially creators of the packet MAK, for their invaluable suggestions, advice, and cordial cooperation in creating FIDSERW program.
